Openings for graduate students

The Kulik group has multiple openings for current graduate students at MIT broadly in the areas of machine learning-aided electronic structure method development, high-throughput discovery workflows for catalysis including in metal–organic frameworks, and discovering materials degradation pathways of Ir complexes for OLED materials, among others. We anticipate recruiting around three students to carry out such projects from across chemistry, chemical engineering, and related departments. Interested students are encouraged to reach out to any of the current group members or to schedule a meeting with Heather via email.

For students interested in coming to MIT in Fall 2025 for graduate school, MIT ChemE and Chemistry, where we are jointly located, carry out department-wide admissions and do not admit students based on the needs of an individual professor. We are also affiliated with CSBi, which maintains similar policies, and offers rotations. We are also affiliated with the Computational Science and Engineering PhD program. Once admitted to MIT, graduate students can join our group from any department inside MIT. For example, in addition to ChemE and Chemistry, we regularly take students into our group from mechanical engineering and materials science, among others. Students are encouraged to apply to the appropriate PhD program that matches their undergraduate training. Professor Kulik is unavailable for discussion of projects until after admissions decisions are complete.


Postdoctoral openings

We do not currently have any funded postdoctoral openings anticipated. Areas of interest, especially for partially funded postdocs, include electronic structure method development and machine learning for modeling of excited state properties of transition metal chromophores.


Undergraduates

We are always eager to welcome interested MIT undergraduate students to our lab.
